This Owie Spray is an easy and effective way to soothe skin irritations.  Melaleuca (tea tree) cleanses and rejuvenates, while Lavender helps skin recover quickly. Frankincense is optional, but smells fantastic and also provides tremendous soothing properties.

The next time you or your child suffers a skin irritation, no need to panic.  Just whip out this Owie Spray and be amazed at how quickly the skin recovers!  (Be sure to use it multiple times each day until the skin is back to normal.)

Owie Spray

15 drops Melaleuca
15 drops Lavender
5 drops Frankincense
Fractionated Coconut Oil
(15 ml colored glass bottle with spray top*)
(Water resistant label)

  1. Place essential oils in empty 15 ml colored glass bottle.*
  2. Add FCO to fill the rest of the bottle.
  3. Insert spray top and secure tightly.
  4. Affix water resistant label to the bottle.  (I find it helpful to write on the label first, before attaching it to the bottle.)
  5. Shake well before each use.
  6. Spray directly onto irritated skin.  (Try to do this at least several times each day until the affected area has recovered.)

*I like to use a recycled 15 ml essential oil bottle with a tiny spray top.

Guess what: you can also make an Owie Roller Remedy.  Here’s a little video I made about Owie Blends & Sprays…

Hello! can you please tell me – does this sting when you spray it on a child’s cut or scrape? thanks!

Patty–With the dilution of the oils in water, it shouldn’t sting. If you apply the oils (undiluted) directly to a cut, they may sting.

    Hello,

I’m brand new to essential oils, so this is a pretty basic question. I read that diluting the oils to 2% is a good, safe level to use oils on your skin. It said that 12 drops to every 30 mL is equal to 2% dilution. So the amount of drops called for in your Owie Spray is definitely way more than 2%. Is that safe?

Hi Dawn, I feel comfortable using essential oils straight (without dilution) on myself and my children. My Modern Essentials book recommends diluting one to two drops of EO with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon carrier oil for infants and small children. You should definitely do what feels most comfortable to you! Hope that helps! 🙂

HI — I know this is an older post, but I saw it on Pinterest, so just in case you get comment alerts… I’m new to oils, and I’ve seen this spray recipe as an option for diaper rash also, but with distilled water instead of FCO. What would be the difference in the two as “carriers” for the blend?

    Thanks!

      Hi Brooke,

Well, I would think the water alone would be more drying, and the FCO would be more moisturizing. I actually use a combination of water and FCO for my Baby Wipe Spray that is used with cloth wipes. And I LOVE my EO’s, but the best natural solution I’ve found for diaper rash is the Soothing Rash Stick mentioned here.

      I hope that helps! 🙂
