Looking for a way to recycle fractionated coconut oil bottles? I’ve got you covered. Read on for an awesome, easy way to put those empty FCO bottles to good use…
The Best Way to Recycle Fractionated Coconut Oil Bottles
If you hate to toss your empty FCO bottles, try this: add a spray top!
There. Wasn’t that easy?
It’s true that glass and stainless steel are typically best for use with essential oils. However, there are five good reasons to use a sturdy plastic bottle–such as an empty FCO bottle–to make an oily DIY spray.
5 Reasons to Repurpose FCO Bottles for DIY Sprays
1. Plastic won’t shatter.
Situations like tiled bathroom floors and cement patios make me nervous about using glass spray bottles. Especially with kids! I tend to use recycled FCO bottles for Bug Spray, Cooling Spray and other sprays used often by my children.
2. Plastic is lighter than glass.
Again, our Bug Spray usually goes in a plastic bottle–both for safety and for practicality. A plastic bottle is just easier (and safer) to tote around.
3. DIY sprays are diluted.
I wouldn’t recommend storing pure essential oil in a plastic bottle, but in a DIY spray the essential oil is highly diluted. The combination of super-sturdy plastic plus a high dilution ratio makes me totally comfortable using FCO bottles for my own sprays.
Don’t you sort of hate to waste that last little bit of fractionated coconut oil that seems impossible to get out of the bottle? When you turn your empty bottle into a DIY spray, the coconut oil gets stretched even further.
5. Save some moolah.
To make a DIY spray in a glass bottle, you typically have to purchase the bottle.
Unless you recycle certain glass bottles, which is hard to do on a large scale and can be a bit of a hassle.
Guess what: you already own the FCO bottle! All you have to buy is the spray top, which is cheaper than buying a glass bottle. And if you go through FCO like we do at my house, you’ll have an endless supply of empty bottles to repurpose.
Get the Right Spray Top
To fit the newer doTERRA FCO bottles, you want a spray top with a 20/400 or 20/410 neck. Like this one.
